Fix Missing Events & Handle Polygon Reorgs Safely
Missing logs, skipped events, and reverted state in Polygon indexers almost always trace back to tip-of-chain micro-reorgs and multi-node load balancer desync.
Why Polygon Events Disappear
- Querying 'latest' blocks before Bor sprint finalization (Polygon reorganizations of 1-3 blocks can replace unfinalized events).
- Upstream load-balanced node state discrepancy where an indexer queries an out-of-sync node that hasn't received the recent block.
- Indexers advancing block height pointers on empty log queries without checking for reorg hashes.
- Overly broad eth_getLogs filter blocks exceeding standard log bloom filter limitations.
How to Build Reorg-Safe Indexing
- Use block parameter 'safe' (checked against Heimdall checkpoint) or 'finalized' when storing immutable application events.
- Implement block hash verification alongside block number queries to detect when a parent block has been replaced by a reorg.
- Maintain a rollback buffer of 16-32 blocks in your indexing layer before marking events as permanently settled.
- Connect to an authenticated Polygon-dedicated endpoint that delivers consistent block progression without multi-node routing jitter.
Simple event queries work on shared RPC when:
- querying historical blocks confirmed over 100+ blocks ago
- displaying non-critical UI balance updates
- missing an intermittent log event causes zero loss
- manual refresh is acceptable for users
Reorg-safe infrastructure is required when:
- indexing deposits, withdrawals, or token transfers
- building subgraphs, analytics dashboards, or ledger state
- executing smart contract automations triggered by event emissions
- you need strict event idempotency and zero dropped records
Consistent Event Ingestion on Polygon Mainnet
BlazingNode provides fast, consistent block head advancement with authenticated Polygon endpoints, eliminating event drops and state drift.
